Decluttering Tips for the Messy People
1. Get rid of the "dumping ground."
Once, we threatened to flip over the dining room table and set it on its side until this became a regular occurrence. Two tables were available: one was a kitchen, and the other was a formal dining area table. It was the perfect spot to stash all your stuff since the dining room table was not used often.
Clear the dumping grounds every night.
You can be sure that some stuff will end up there every single day. However, if your routine is to clear it every night, it will make the surface flatter and reduce the chance of clutter accumulating.
Designating a place for these items is the best thing. You can use it as a family command center or simply hooks and baskets for everyday items.
2. Conquer mail clutter
We love to make a mail clutter solution. This is a great way to get rid of paper piles. You don't have to make it fancy. It's actually simpler. First, remove all incoming mail clutter. This could involve making a few phone calls, updating some preferences online, and unsubscribing to certain mailings.
Create a solution for your mail piles. Your mail clutter doesn't have to be hidden if it is visible. A system should be set up that reminds you to sort your mail regularly and keeps you organized.
You have options. You can use folders, baskets, or any other method to organize your mail. These are some of our favorite mail organization systems.
There are so many possibilities. You want to make a system that is most comfortable for you and your loved ones. It's true, piles can sometimes make it difficult to see the important things.
3. Reduce how many dishes you have to wash.
You may have made it too easy to wash dishes if your kitchen sink is always full.
Hear our story. How many place settings are you using in your kitchen?
There is no way to have enough plates if there are more than two for your family. Count the small, large, and plastic plates. Here's how it happens. You clean your dishes. You then wash them and put them in a sink. As you have more options, there is no incentive for you to wash these dishes.
You decide what to do at the next dinner. You get another set!
You will now have to decide whether you want to serve two dishes per person or one at a time. They will stop adding up. This is how you can stay on top of your dishes by having less!
Wash the dishes each night before going to bed. It is not something you enjoy doing. It is not what we want to do. Your morning self will be grateful.
